Freescale pushes healthcare analog front-end reference platform

Shanghai, China, March 19, 2013 (Munich Shanghai Electronics Show) - The rapid development of portable medical devices in the world not only makes it easier for consumers to get medical technology, but also provides end users with what they could not use at home before. Technology that changes the entire healthcare industry. Medical device manufacturers have been facing the challenges of the consumer market, including price sensitivity and time to market. To simplify product development, reduce costs and speed time-to-market, Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) introduces the Healthcare Analog Front End (AFE) reference design platform including hardware, schematics and software for easy product prototyping .

Freescale Launches Healthcare Analog Front End Reference Platform

The global medical device industry is growing rapidly. According to Espicom's latest industry research report, by 2015, the market size of the industry is expected to grow from $164 billion in 2010 to $228 billion. According to Gartner, portable consumer medical devices such as blood glucose monitors, blood pressure monitors, insulin pumps and heart rate monitors are the fastest growing segments of the market.

Steven Dean, director of marketing for Freescale's Vertical Solutions, said: "The consumerization trend in healthcare is putting tremendous pressure on medical device architects. Sometimes, engineers are expected to complete their designs in just a few months. Engineers We prefer to have vendors like Freescale to help them complete designs more easily and faster. With our healthcare-specific AFE reference design platform, engineers and external design companies can more easily prototype in less time. Products, complete more projects."

Reduce development costs

The Freescale Healthcare AFE Reference Design Platform is a highly integrated hardware and software development platform that helps reduce system cost, board size and complexity. The platform is based on the Kinetis K53 MCU, which includes an integrated analog front end (AFE) with all the features needed to capture biosensor data. This integrated AFE contains an accurate reference voltage, four high performance amplifiers, and two high resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog (DAC) converter modules.

The reference design platform is based on Freescale's tower system and includes a demonstration or prototyping electrocardiogram (ECG), heart monitor, pulse oximeter, blood glucose monitor, blood pressure monitor, spirometer or a Doppler ultrasound stethoscope. The required software and hardware. Application-specific board plug-ins enable users to choose their application and integration. The six boards in the reference platform are as follows:

● MED-BPM for blood pressure monitor

● MED-STETH for digital stethoscope and fetal heart rate monitor

● MED-EKG for ECG and heart rate monitoring

● MED-SPI for spirometer

● MED-SP02 for oximeter

● MED-GLU for blood glucose monitors
