Is it good to use alkaline fertilizer in the soil? Basic fertilizer use precautions

Long-term use of acidic or physiological acid fertilizers such as calcium phosphate, ammonium nitrogen, potassium sulfate or potassium chloride leads to increased soil acidification, imbalance of soil nutrients and decreased fertility, which seriously affect crop growth. Under this background, many agricultural enterprises began to push for alkaline fertilizers, and some enterprises even made propaganda that “national land needs to apply alkaline fertilizer”. Is this really the case?

Alkaline fertilizer is just a concept that does not apply to the country

The so-called alkaline fertilizer refers to a fertilizer dissolved in distilled water with a pH of 7. After the fertilizer is completely dissolved, the pH of the solution is tested. If the pH of the solution is greater than 7, the fertilizer is determined to be alkaline. Fertilizer, if the pH of the solution is less than 7, it can be judged as acidic fertilizer.

At present, many companies have introduced alkaline fertilizers, and some even proposed the concept of “alkaline organic fertilizer”. It is well known that because many beneficial micro-organisms in the soil cannot survive in alkaline fertilizers, it is impossible to have products under such concepts, and it is far from the concept of alkaline fertilizers.

Is alkaline fertilizer suitable for the whole country? The saying that the soil is acidified all over the country is somewhat partial.

According to the national soil acidity and alkalinity data, the soil pH of most cultivated land in northern China, including our province, is about 7.6, which is weakly alkaline. It is not reasonable to apply alkaline fertilizer.

It is necessary to pay attention to its compatibility according to local conditions.

Soil characteristics should be fully considered when selecting fertilizers. For alkaline soil, try to use physiological acid nitrogen and potassium fertilizers, such as ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride and potassium chloride, but do not apply alkaline fertilizers, such as ammonia, ammonium bicarbonate, plant ash, etc. Fertilizer lime. For acidic soils, acid fertilizer should be refused, the amount of fertilizer should be reduced, and the use of sulfuric acid compound fertilizer should be reduced; nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in an appropriate amount to avoid acidification and consolidation of soil due to excessive nitrogen fertilizer. At the same time, the application of organic fertilizer, straw returning to the field can also improve the pH of the soil.

Pay attention to the compatibility of fertilizers when using alkaline fertilizers. Alkaline fertilizers cannot be mixed with ammonium fertilizers. When mixed, the ammonia will volatilize, causing nitrogen loss and reducing fertilizer efficiency. Commonly used ammonium nitrogen fertilizers are ammonium hydrogencarbonate, ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride, ammonium phosphate, and the like. Alkaline fertilizer can not be mixed with quick-acting phosphate fertilizer (such as superphosphate, heavy superphosphate, etc.), so as not to cause phosphoric acid degradation and reduce phosphate fertilizer efficiency.

Alkaline fertilizer can not be mixed with decomposed organic fertilizer. Organic fertilizer with high maturity contains more available nutrients. Nitrogen is mostly in the form of ammonium nitrogen. If mixed with alkaline fertilizer, it will cause ammonia to volatilize and reduce organic fertilizer. Nutrient content. Alkaline fertilizers cannot be mixed with some pesticides (such as trichlorfon, dimethoate, methamidophos, carbaryl, thiophanate, jinggangmycin, carbendazim, yam, and Jerusalem artichoke insecticides). Otherwise it will reduce the efficacy. (Chen Zhiwen)
