How to use the Bordeaux mixture for crop sterilization

The core message: Bordeaux fluid is a kind of protective bactericide with strong bactericidal ability, wide range of efficacy, and long-lasting effect. However, many fruit growers do not correctly grasp the preparation method of Bordeaux mixture, and the Bordeaux mixture is not of high quality, plus the application method. Improper, reducing efficacy, and sometimes cause losses.

Preparation of Bordeaux mixture

The concentration of Bordeaux mixture is usually expressed as a ratio of copper sulfate to water. For example, a 0.5% or 200-fold Bordeaux mixture means that 1 part of copper sulfate is contained in 200 parts of water, and the copper sulfate:lime:water ratio is 1:1:1:200.

Bordeaux mixture is divided into two methods:

(1) Two-fluid method: Dissolve copper sulfate and lime separately in 1/2 of the liquid to be prepared, then slowly pour the two liquids into the third container and stir while stirring.

(2) Diluted copper thick lime method: The copper sulfate is dissolved in a large amount of water, dubbed into a dilute solution of copper sulfate, lime is dissolved in a small amount of water, dubbed lime milk; then slowly dilute the copper sulfate solution into the milk of lime, edge Stir and stir. Remember that you must not pour lime milk into the copper sulfate solution, otherwise it will precipitate and destroy the colloidal structure of Bordeaux mixture.

Bordeaux fluid application

Bordeaux fluid is a protective bactericide and has no therapeutic effect on plant diseases. Therefore, it can only be applied before the onset of illness to prevent it. If it is applied after onset, it will only kill the bacteria on the surface of the plant and it will not kill the bacteria that invade the plant.

The resistance of different crop varieties to copper sulfate and quicklime is different. In different seasons, the raw material ratio of Bordeaux mixture should also be different. For fruit trees sensitive to copper sulphate, the amount of copper sulphate should be appropriately reduced. On the contrary, the amount of copper sulphate should be appropriately increased. Similarly, fruit trees that are more sensitive to quicklime should reduce the proportion of lime. The amount of lime should be determined based on the amount of rain, and the amount of lime in rainy years should be appropriately increased. Less lime, faster after spraying, but the short duration of efficacy.

Practice has proved that Bordeaux liquid has a poor effect on powdery mildew. For wound protection and rot disease prevention and control, copper sulfate: lime: water: animal oil in accordance with the ratio of 1:3:15: 0.4, first formulated into Bordeaux paste, then add animal oil stirring, the effect is good. In order to increase the efficacy, some extenders may be added during the preparation of Bordeaux mixture.

Application notes

1, stirring constantly when spraying to avoid precipitation. Finer sprayer heads allow small and uniform droplets to be ejected. Avoid overdose and uneven spraying resulting in injury.

2, should not be applied in rainy weather, so as not to produce phytotoxicity. Bordeaux's solution only works under slightly alkaline conditions. It increases acidity in the rainy days and releases a large amount of free copper ions. It is not only easy to burn the leaves, but also easily washed off by the rain and wasting chemicals. It should also be avoided at noon on sunny days when the temperature exceeds 30°C.

3, can not be mixed with lime sulfur mixture. After spraying Bordeaux mixture every 15 to 30 days before spraying lime sulfur mixture, spraying lime sulfur mixture should be sprayed after 7 to 15 days of Bordeaux mixture, otherwise it will produce black copper sulfide, so that fruit trees occur phytotoxicity.

4, can not be mixed with acidic substances, especially in the case of alkali decomposition of organic phosphorus drugs.

5, with the use of matching, can not be placed for a long time to prevent precipitation. The prepared Bordeaux mixture should not be diluted with water during application.

6, Bordeaux fluid is alkaline, corrosive to the metal, spray after each application to clean equipment.
